The SN-D-2 probe is a specialized tool for measuring neutron dose equivalent rates, designed for use with any CSP survey meter or CSP-compatible computer systems. Equipped with an 8 atm ³He gas detector housed in a 200 mm polyethylene sphere, the SN-D-2 delivers best-in-class neutron detection efficiency and exceptional gamma rejection, ensuring accurate and reliable neutron measurements.
Its lightweight design makes it ideal for direct neutron dose measurements in areas such as reactor buildings during outages or on spent fuel transportation containers before shipment to reprocessing plants. The probe can be mounted on a tripod, allowing for flexible positioning at various heights and distances, enabling users to stay safely away from the radiation area, which aligns with the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principle.
With a measurement range starting from as low as 300 nSv/h, the SN-D-2 can quickly verify compliance with public neutron radiation limits, often within a minute. For occupational monitoring in radiation-controlled areas, the upper range reaches 100 mSv/h, making it suitable for higher dose-rate environments. The probe can also be used with a scaler-timer function on CSP meters to improve Minimum Detectable Activity (MDA) when necessary.
The SN-D-2 features a built-in carrying handle for easy transport to the monitoring site and is compatible with dedicated meter holders that allow one-hand operation. Additionally, it can be connected to CSP-COM™ modules to integrate with third-party systems, acting as a neutron sub-assembly.
For calibration and firmware upgrades, the SN-D-2 can be connected to a computer using the CSPS™ software and a USB cable. It connects to the survey meter via a 1.5 meter, 10 meter, or 20 meter CSP cable, offering flexibility in setup and monitoring.
