The Mirion Argos-PAB family of Whole Body Surface Contamination Monitors offers a user-friendly solution for detecting external contamination on personnel in nuclear environments. The Argos-5 PAB and Argos-3 PAB monitors are equipped with advanced gasless Thin Plastic Scintillator (TPS) detectors, which are optimized for superior alpha and beta response while minimizing gamma response.
Traditionally, the key advantage of plastic scintillation detectors over gas flow detectors in whole body monitors was the elimination of counting gas. However, this often came at the cost of detector performance, including low efficiency and poor uniformity, leading to longer counting times. Mirion has effectively addressed these challenges, reducing the trade-offs between operating costs and performance in their gasless detector technology.
Both the Argos-3 PAB and Argos-5 PAB monitors maintain the industry-leading contour geometry found in the Argos-3 AB and Argos-5 AB gas flow monitors. By utilizing scintillation detectors with embedded photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), they minimize dead space between detectors, ensuring optimal contour geometry and coverage for users.
All Argos monitors incorporate a sophisticated “fast following” background trending and release-limit algorithm, which enhances performance in both stable and fluctuating radiation fields.
With the Mirion WebRemote software, users benefit from an intuitive touch screen graphical user interface designed for industrial PC-based operations. This enhances health physics programs, improves contamination tracking, and accelerates personnel throughput at boundary points.
Additionally, the Argos monitors feature excellent detector protection, modular component design, and comprehensive diagnostics, all of which contribute to significant reductions in maintenance, repair, and operational costs.
